Even if you’re a brick-and-mortar local business, sometimes these businesses don’t think that they need one but in reality, there’s really no downside to having one and the upside is that you can increase your business sometimes even double it or more.

Literally everyone is on the internet all of the time, it doesn’t matter whether it’s buying things, learning a new skill, watching TV or making friends we can almost do anything on the internet nowadays.

So having an online presence on the Internet or taking your business online is almost a must if you want to get anywhere and unfortunately social media has become so noisy that it’s become increasingly harder to actually make an impact and stand out online.

You’re not going to get a slice of the online business pie if you’re not online, and nowadays there is several ways to get online but at the core of your business, you should have a website even if you do have other online platforms for your business.

You don’t need expensive coding anymore to create a great website, back in the old days, you’d have to be an Internet wizard to build a website, but now, with all the latest drag-and-drop technology it’s never been easier.

Businesses now flourish online by owning a website.

The purchase decision of most individuals starts with a search on search engines like google. Most individuals go online to search for whatever they have in mind to purchase and your business website gives you the benefit of being seen. 

The more you appear in a really small area in a county or in a city, the more that people are going to recognize you and the more you’re going to get searches for your business name. It even makes more sense if people hear about your business through word of mouth and still find you online.

Just remember that branding is really important and it’s something that it’s a long-term play. An easy way to do it is to have a good logo and consistent appearance between all your marketing materials like if you have brochures invoices, your website, your social media platforms, business cards and then youe website. You will look a lot more professional than the company next to you.

This is not just blabbing, a lot of people are making a lot of money online these days because we do a lot of things online and we also buy a lot of things online. It’s an opportunity to be creative, so if money isn’t your motivator that’s just fine because, building a website provides you with a creative space to show off your work and the process of building your website can be really creative too. 

You can make animated buttons, you can show off your photography, you can even create color schemes and so much more.
The ways you can design your website are almost endless. It’s an outlet to expand your growth on a hobby or a topic. If you have a hobby or a topic that you really like, a website is a way to grow your passion for that. You can connect with people, write blog posts, document your experiences, all of it can be done with a website.

It serves as an amazing resume for your business and makes you stand out at your next job. Having a website can put you head and shoulders ahead of everyone else, not only can it display your work in a fun and professional way, but being tech savvy in today’s world really means a lot and creating a website really shows.

Owning your website is like having a property on your own terms. You have full control of your website; your own domain and you’re hosting. If you build your following or build an audience on another platform like Instagram, Facebook etc., you have to play by their rules and their rules are always changing.

The best example is Facebook where people would have thousands of likes on their page and it was almost like free marketing. Every time they sent out a status update on their page, it went out to thousands of people, but then, over time Facebook users started complaining about that and now you only reach maybe five to ten percent of your Facebook friends. 

You just have to adapt to whatever changes they come up with because, it’s Facebook’s platform, it’s their hosting and it’s their rules so that’s why you want to set up shop on your own domain and on your own hosting platform.

Sometimes people want to research about your company, your products, your services on their schedule, not on your schedule, and the easiest way to do that is to put as much information as you can about your business online.

Tell your company story in a unique way, you want to establish trust. This is probably the most important thing with a website. If somebody is just finding your company online, they have no reference of the people behind it, what your company’s about how long you’ve been in business. Therefore, the more information you put online the better.

You could have customer testimonials and reviews, talk about your results, the best projects you’ve done, how your product or service is going to benefit your potential customers lives etc. The more that you can establish a human connection with people, the more they’re going to be drawn to do business with you.

But just also know that there’s going to be negative reviews too because the only people that generally leave reviews online are people that are extremely happy or extremely disappointed and most of the time it’s the people that are extremely disappointed.

5. Organic Traffic

Having a great online presence is not going to happen overnight, it’s going to take some time to build that content and that authority up online. But the only way you’re going to do it is by starting now and by being consistent with it over a long period of time.

So you want to make it a habit to update your website frequently continue to add pictures, blog posts, articles, before after pictures if you’re a service oriented business. Continue to add content to your site and Google is going to repay you for being diligent with that effort.

6. Return on Investment

There is a great positive chance of return on investment for your business. If you do business to business or business to customer market, you only need a handful of customers if not less to achieve your return on investment, given that, website is among the great sources of new customers for an average small business.

It is also good to know that a website lasts for as long as you want it to and it continues working for you. There is no other means to advertise and market for so long than owning a website. Facebook ads, linkedin ads, google adwords, radio ads, television ads etc all last for a certain period of time.
If you don’t achieve your return on investment in the first year, no need to cloud yourself with worries because the website is there for as long as you want it for you to make a return on investment.


If you really think you have an opportunity to market that offer all you need is a website, a one-page website that either you know tells the story of your product or service or collect leads so that is really the overall picture of why you need a website as a business.

You can test offers quickly, you can invest in building your website over time which is going to result in more traffic from Google. You have full control and overall it’s completely outweigh any negative to setting up a website.
